The food sticks in my vessels - why and what can I do?
All of Skeppshult's products are made from pure cast iron. All products are pre-treated with pure rape oil. There is nothing in these substances that makes food burn or catch unless the temperature is too high or unless fat which is not meant for cooking is being used. Some fats and oils are not meant to be used for cooking, e.g. some sandwich spreads. The correct frying temperature (regardless of frying pan) is between +180 and 200 C. Another reason could be that the vessel/frying pan has been washed in a dishwasher or with too much washing-up liquid. If that is the case the cooking oil which is supposed to be in the cast iron product can have dissolved and leached from the vessel, leaving no so-called ”non-stick” protection.
The kitchen paper, dishbrush or sauce/food turns black.
If that is the case the cooking oil which is supposed to be in the cast iron product can have dissolved and leached from the vessel, leaving no so-called ”non-stick” protection. Irrespective of the problem, it is easily rectified - Boil water in the vessel. Pour the water out and let the vessel dry, e.g. on the remaining heat from the hob. Thereafter follow our Care and maintenance and Measures to be taken when wrongly used - Here you will find descriptions of how to maintain and take care cast iron products easily.

This provides the products with a nice, black colour and means that the product is finished and can be used immediately. In this way, the products have a so-called Natural non-stick protection, without any chemicals. (No measures need to be taken before the product is used.
