120 YEARS OF CASTINGS
It began in 1906. Charles E. Andersson, fresh from his sojourn in North America, carried with him a profound reservoir of dreams and expertise. Here in Skeppshult, nestled beside the serene Nissan River, he founded a foundry. Much has unfolded since then, yet so much endures unchanged. The knowledge, the artistry, the values—they remain steadfast: robust, purposeful, and timeless.
Skeppshult Foundry stands as the sole surviving artisan in Scandinavia crafting heirloom household essentials from cast iron. Innumerable steps in our process are pure craftsmanship, demanding the mastery of seasoned hands. Our expansive collection of exquisite products is cherished alike by culinary professionals and those who seek to elevate the everyday elegance of their homes. Every piece in the Skeppshult repertoire is impeccably functional, a vision of beauty when displayed, and an enduring token of thoughtful gifting.
It is no mere happenstance that our creations are forged in Sweden, in the heart of Skeppshult. The unparalleled access to the finest casting sands, coupled with generations of unparalleled expertise, yields a finish and resilience without equal. Thus, we extend a resolute 25-year guarantee on every cast iron masterpiece. For an immersion in our full legacy, we invite you to our meticulously curated factory boutique—a destination of rare distinction, where heritage meets horizon.
Casting the molten iron requires special moulds that can withstand extreme temperatures. Metal tools such as those used in casting aluminium and other materials would not withstand molten cast iron and therefore we use sand moulds that have been compressed under several tons of pressure. The composition of the sand is very important and something we put a lot of time into.
With 120 years of experience, we have found the right composition that can both hold the hot cast iron and provide the right structure in the cast metal. Two halves of the sand moulds are pressed together, which creates a cavity for the molten cast iron. The casting master pours the iron by hand; it takes experience and precision for the castings to meet our requirements at Skeppshult.
